Gothic tells its story in six chapters, each ending with a turn that reshapes the valley. You start thrown through the Barrier into a penal mining colony, pick a camp, hunt the five Focus Stones, expose the Sleeper as a demon and finally banish it in its temple.
Chapter 1 — Welcome to the Colony
- 1
Thrown through the Barrier
The Nameless Hero is cast into the penal colony by royal decree, stripped and abandoned. He lands outside the mines, where Diego — a Shadow — finds him.
💡 Diego is your first lifeline; follow his lead to get oriented.
- 2
A Letter From the Fire Mages
Meet Diego, who points you toward your opening errand and the camps.
- 3
Retrieve enchanted ore for the ritual
Brotherhood guru Y'Berion asks the hero to fetch enchanted ore for a ritual.
💡 This is your first taste of the Sect and the Sleeper's cult.
- 4
The ritual goes wrong
The ritual fails and Y'Berion is struck down — the event that sets the rest of the story in motion.
Chapter 2 — The Sleeper's Call
- 1
Commit to a camp
You lock in a faction: Shadow/Guard with the Old Camp, Mercenary with the New Camp, or Templar with the Swamp Camp.
💡 This choice is exclusive — read the camp guide before committing.
- 2
Learn the Water Mages' plan
Saturas and the Water Mages reveal the scheme: focus magic through 5 ancient Focus Stones to overload the ore energy and shatter the Barrier.
- 3
Start hunting Focus Stones
The 5 stones are scattered across the valley — gathering them drives the mid-game.
Everything in the middle of the game orbits the 5 Focus Stones. They channel magic to overload the ore energy and break the dome, so treat every camp errand as a step toward collecting them.
Chapter 4 — Traitors and Allies
- 1
The Barrier and Sleeper are bound
You learn the Barrier and the Sleeper are mystically linked — and that the Sleeper is no benevolent god but a demon of enormous power, implicating Cor Kalom.
- 2
Meet Xardas
Xardas sets the real objective: banish the Sleeper using the ancient sword Uriziel and the holy Eye of Innos. He also teaches you the 6th Circle of magic.
💡 3 golems guard the path to Xardas' tower — read 'Arcanum Golem Vol I & II' in the Water Mage library for their weaknesses.
Chapter 5 — The Free Mine and Beyond
- 1
Cross orc territory with the Ulu-Mulu
Passing through orc land requires the Ulu-Mulu, a ceremonial staff that marks you as non-hostile.
- 2
Re-temper Uriziel
Uriziel is damaged and must be re-forged by the Fire Mages — which needs ore and a Focus Stone.
💡 Hold back a Focus Stone for the re-tempering instead of spending them all early.
Chapter 6 — Temple of the Sleeper
- 1
Enter the Sleeper's temple
The Sleeper is the final boss, fought in its temple at the heart of the colony.
- 2
Activate the Eye of Innos
Activate the Eye of Innos at the right moment to expose the Sleeper's vulnerability.
- 3
Strike with Uriziel
Only Uriziel can deal the banishing damage once the Sleeper is exposed.
💡 Timing matters — the Eye opens the window, the sword closes it.
Each chapter closes a door behind you, so finish a chapter's main quests before chasing side content. The throughline never changes: pick a camp, gather the Focus Stones, arm yourself with Uriziel and the Eye of Innos, and bring the fight to the Sleeper.
