The Valley of Mines holds 63 creatures across two dozen families, from the harmless meat bug to temple guardians. Read threat by the HP / XP / tier in the table below, then match the listed damage type — most deaths come from bringing edge to a skeleton or greed to a shadowbeast. New here? How to read threat
Threat is a function of three things, all of them in the table: how much HP a creature soaks, the damage type it resists, and whether it comes alone or in a pack. Scavengers are trivial one-on-one and lethal in fours; skeletons have modest HP but shrug off your sword edge.
- Skeletons & golems resist edged weapons — bring a blunt hammer.
- Lizards are armored — heavy 2H or blunt swings only.
- Zombies are slow and tough but fire melts them.
- Demons & guardians want magic or a Master-tier 2H with ore armor.

If an enemy isn't dying in 3–4 hits, you're underleveled or using the wrong damage type — disengage. "One wolf is practice. Four wolves is a reload." Against a shadowbeast, put your back to a wall and trade single left/right slashes; against anything armored, switch to blunt before you commit.

How many creatures are in Gothic 1 Remake?
The colony guides count 63 creatures; some databases list 65. Either way it's over two dozen creature families — scavengers, molerats, shadowbeasts, orcs and more across the Valley of Mines.
What's the hardest non-boss creature?
The Demon is the toughest regular enemy — bring magic or a Master-tier 2H with ore armor. Orcs are the real skill check: you have to block, read the stance and counter rather than trade.
Why won't my sword hurt skeletons?
Skeletons resist edged damage. Swap to a blunt weapon such as a hammer or mace and they fall normally. The same logic applies to golems and armored lizards.
Are the HP and XP numbers exact?
They're the verified Gothic-1 baseline reused by these creature databases. They may differ slightly in the shipped Remake, so treat them as authoritative-but-verify.
